IRB Form
9/26/2016
Why do we need this?
The IRB is needed in order to share student and classroom information with permission from the school and the individuals involved in the research.
How can this be helpful in defining my driving question?
The IRB application helps to define the subject of inquiry, its participants, purpose, method of research, and how the findings will be shared.
How will I use my blog to fill it in?
Once I have decided on a driving question and how I plan to research its topic, my information can be cut and paste from my blog into the application.
What do I need to know to address my driving question?
- I need feedback to know if my purpose of study is a legitimate topic of inquiry.
- I need to learn more about which research method is best for my study, once decided.
- Will I need consent forms from all of my students if I am giving data about them as a whole?
Developing My Driving Question
I am beginning to narrow my topic of research and driving question. By that I mean that it has been a broad topic and now I am refining it more.
After much thought and reading I realized that my interest in research is focused on differentiating instruction. Many students are taught the same way even when they learn differently or have challenges learning. I also see above average students that need more of a challenge. My experience in working with students of varying levels has left me wondering how best to teach them and what the best methods would be to reach every student. We are aware of the challenges and gifts that they may come to us with, I want to be stronger with teaching my students and helping them feel successful at any tier level they are at.
The article, Differentiating Instruction in the Elementary Grades Eric Digest http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED443572.pdf asks the following important questions and elaborates on them. These questions are of high interest to me and I found the article very helpful and interesting.
- What is differentiated instruction?
- Why differentiated instruction in the elementary grades?
- What makes differentiated instruction successful?
- What is the best way to begin differentiation?
My next questions in this task become:
When I narrow my topic, what will be my official driving question?
- What will my main research method be?
- Will I use specific students in my class?
- Will I study my class as a whole?
- How will I document and reflect on my findings?
- Where can I find research that will support how to differentiate instruction successfully?
- How will I know if the methods I use are building my students up for success in the real world?
