Preview and Critique of three Capstones
Ann Dearborn:
Who was their audience?
Ann's capstone was geared toward teachers and other educators. As a Kindergarten teacher I was really interested one of her driving questions which is about the use of ipads for kindergarten in the classroom.
iPads in the Classroom: If iPads are seamlessly immersed in the kindergarten curriculum, how will teaching and learning change? What are the unforeseen benefits? -Dearborn
I use them but not to the extent she has. I really liked her focus on engagement and technology.
Were they effective in presenting to them on every page?
She was effective at presenting on every page. I liked all her graphics and how it related to the information she was presenting. She had a great logo that went well with her topic. I liked her "about the author" page however, I noticed she mentioned that all her experience was in one school and the same district. It's great that she grew and saw so much change over the years in NVUSD. I do think it would have been more beneficial for her and engaging to others if she had been other places. A person expands and grows having a more richer experience when they don't spend their time all in one place.
Why or why not?
She used many visuals and it was engaging and helpful for her audience. Her experience is very good but not as interesting as some who have experience in other areas. I like how she related her own experiences in the classroom to her research. She has many of the same thoughts and some similarities as my capstone and driving question. I like her creativity and all the thought she put into it. She did a great job.
Lisa Gottfried
Who was their audience?
Lisa's audience was for teachers. I like how she incorporated the blog into authentic writing practice. She had videos that were helpful for her audience. This is always informative and helps shed some light on how to implement this practice in a classroom. The fact that she has online tutorials is also very helpful and I found it a great idea and resource.
Were they effective in presenting to them on every page?
She was effective at presenting and I found it particularly interesting how she was able to Skype teachers in Vietnam. It's great to network and learn how teachers are wondering the same things around the world which is how to Help students learn in a more innovative way. Her TPACK page was a little less effective for me.
Why or why not?
The only reason I was less engaged with her TPACK page was because it was more wordy and had lots of text. It could have had more visuals like the others. Overall she did a great job and I found all of the other pages to be effective to her audience.
Karla Vale
Who was their audience?
Karla's audience was for teachers. I like her social emotional focus on students and classroom community. Her video was a great touch and useful opening for her topic.
Were they effective in presenting to them on every page?
Her capstone website was teacher friendly and engaging. She had many great explanations with each graphic. I liked her topic and so useful for every teacher.
Why or why not?
I found it very engaging and helpful to her audience with the use of her graphics and she had great explanations. I agree that we need to teach the whole child and touch on the social emotional and instill confidence in them. She did a great job.
I really enjoyed reviewing all the websites and this assignment gave me insight on how this capstone comes together.
