Since I teach kindergarten, my students are still developing their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Many frontal lobe brain functions are not developed yet and won't be for several more years, with that said, the only tool I have worked with in my class are the apps that are installed into the ipad. I would like to focus on the apps I can integrate into their everyday learning. The apps that integrate into their learning right now would be iRead, mathrack and subitizing. In the future, it would be great to have additional programs installed such as social emotional learning and story writing apps. I would like to learn more about digital story telling for kindergarten.

I teach Kindergarten so I will be teaching digital literacy in my classroom to enhance my students learning in a visual format.
We use ipads in our classroom frequently during center time activities and for our school reading program. The students are familiar with ipads and are comfortable using them. I plan to Integrate our math lesson with an app on the ipad called mathrack. I will show the students an equation and model how to solve it on the ipad mathrack app. I will also read a math story problem that involves addition and subtraction. My students will need to show how to add and subtract using the mathrack. I have used this app earlier in the year which was more of an introduction and asked them to show me part-part whole using the mathrack. We also made mathracks. I would like to go deeper into the lesson this time and since some time has gone by it will be good to see how they progress and how their understanding has improved at this point in the year. I believe it is a highly engaging visual tool and it will help them in understanding the math concepts. |
