The audience I initially am addressing are my students however, the bigger audience will be my colleagues. I would share with them the things that I learn in this program and in this class.
I'm a Kindergarten teacher and my plans for the remaining two semesters are to continue to work with my colleagues and plan with them on how to increase academic language and improve literacy. I would like to be more proficient in technology and the TPAK model. I want to use technology more as a tool for learning and not just another ipad app for universal access center time activity. I would like my students to learn more content using technology which is a high visually engaging focus tool. My goal is to collaborate with my colleagues about using different instructional strategies with a high visual focus such as technology. I'm hoping that implementing technology in literacy will raise scores in this area. We are low in literacy local and state wide. Many schools are suffering in literacy and so the question of differentiated instruction and using a high visual strategy comes to mind. I teach in a tier III school which means higher poverty and ELL population. Most schools like this are the lowest nationwide and statewide in literacy and the achievement gap is wide. As Dervin states "no two people within the same culture are alike." There are different learning styles and level of cognitive development within a culture even if they are ELL. With that said, the big questions that I want to continue focusing on are What are the needs of my students? How do they learn best?
